Many people have guru and most of them respect their teachers. Yet they hardly listen to their teachers. There is a intense struggle between the teacher and the student just like the mother and the 5 year old child. Do not do this and do that. At some point of time either the teacher gets frustrated or the disciple gets fed up and they give up.

Why does this happen. Due to resistance? What are the resistances? They are as follows

KARMIC RESISTANCE – people do not understand due to karma. If a person has good karma he will see or hear properly. Therefore when some one does not listen this is due to negative karma. Bless the person.

PERSONALITY RESISTANCE – by nature we have fixed ways which our mind will follow. These are called as habits. When a teacher breaks a concept it becomes lot more tougher. When he shatters a mind set it become very difficult for people to accept. For example a teacher says drinking is good for spiritual life it becomes lot more difficult to accept. Or give up money though we agree with him externally, internally there is fear, doubt and confusion due to the personality.

PLACE RESISTANCE – some place are prone for spiritual growth. For example telling in New York and in Wall Street that prayers will solve many problems will raise eye brows. The reason is that certain mind set operates in some places. It is difficult break it. If you go to hotel we think of eating. Going to hotel and turning back without eating is a difficult mind set.

HEARING RESISTANCE – some people require lot of repetition because they lack hearing. They cannot digest, comprehend new things and therefore repetition and convincing is required. Secondly these people become suspicious once there is convincing, there fore sharavana or listening receptivity or to be open in front of teacher requires blessing of god, ancestors and guru.

FAMILIARITY RESISTANCE- when you move closer with people they tend to listen less. Initially they are open. But after some months or weeks even after 40 minutes they do not want to listen. That is why husband and wife are not open to each other. Bosses do not listen to subordinates. When one knows guru for quite some time students do not listen.

A real guru will change with time, place, people and response. One can never have any concept with guru. One attracts guru according to one’s own energy. A great guru is like a flash of lighting. He need not be famous enough to karmically stir and see the reality in new dimension.

A Vivekananda is great because he recognized the caliber of Ramakrishna parahamasa even before Parahamsa was famous or was well known. It requires punya to be a disciple. My teacher kirtie said very succinctly “when you come in my presence you get according to your level of receptivity. I am open like a river just the vessel has to empty and capacity must be there. In other words each one get blessing according to their level.

I dedicate the merit of the article to my receptive with my guru.
Anyone who hears or sees or listen to words in written or in speech format may they become receptive to inner and outer guru.
Finally may I dedicate this merit to my family peace and good health.
May the family communication improve a lot.
