There are two great traditions in the world. The Buddhism and the Hinduism both stresses lot on mantras and deities. Each tradition has a speciality.

Hindu traditions emphasize lot on the bhakthi aspect of the sadhana. The Tibetan tradition stresses more on the gnana or the techniques aspect of it.

Secondly hinduism stresses more on the out ward form of bhakhi. Tibetan emphasizes more on the inwards or with drawn form of bhakthi.

Hindu are less mass ritualistic. Tibetans are mass oriented like kala chakra rituals.

The deities are kept because they solve problems in astral level and individual level.

Take the case of gay he can not get enlightened. But suppose he takes Krishna as his issata devata and fall in love he can still get enlightened.

Take the case of pregnant women she needs god to help her in delivery plus she can also have more faith, any deity will give you bhukthi (this world problem) and mukthi( enlightment)

Struggling to change thoughts, attitudes and beliefs is limited. Because one’s conditioning of mind, attitude and character happens with the genes in the womb itself.  The best way is to change energy structure which can be done easily with a deity.

The Christianity is still stresses Christ in one aspect. Christ as a healer is also accepted. Christ can be a mother, father, friend,. Lover ( I am talking atrocious things ) ,child etc. chirstanity will heal itself by allowing Christ in different expressions.
