There was a person who worked very hard in a foreign country, saved money and settled in thiruvanamalai to practise adviatha. Slowly he began to realize that it just a fantasy. He realized that he was not in deep evolution as what he had felt.
He met a teacher who told him to practice loving kindness. His meditation grew very fast and he started seeing results. Many people choose not only wrong spiritual spots to do their sadhana but also wrong sadhana itself. This is very painful. Remember were you see lot of spiritual growth is your sadhana, not where you have lot of fantasy. I know a lady who could not get along with others. In fact she had so much of problems with every one. Some one gave sweets as she was vacating the house. She was eating natural food and practiced advitha, and she refused that sweet. The main reason is she does not have proper sadhana, this means she has to practice loving kindness than any of the sadhana.

A guru will guide you in the kind of meditation practice which suits you. Many people have taken meditation which is generally opposite to their nature and ideas. Take the case of man who is very strong in celibacy but takes Krishna mantra. He will have lot of problems in his meditation.
These days we have to realize one of the modern trends is the amalgamation of spiritual paths. To simply say I am a Buddhist, Hindu or Sikh is limiting or saying that I am adviathan tantric etc. a good teacher will know his path and also guide people into the amalgamations of many paths. We are heading into new era of spiritual growth which is inclusive.
There was a lady who asked to speak truth by her guru. There was so much churning in her life. At the end of 48 days niyama she had evolved so much that she thanked her teacher. Therefore it is easy to carry spiritual fantasy. For example a man had eka muki rudraksha. He showed to his guru who said you would grow more if you do japa than simply wearing these kinds of things. It was exact.
There was a man who staying with his parents. His guru told that man that his mother will give him lot of problems in his spiritual life. She will act well, speak well but she will not help him. The guru asked that man not to listen to her. It was exact for that man.
The great guru swami purshotananda told his disciple the great shanthanada that he had material vasana. He wanted him to get married and then take to sanayasa. It happened exactly in the same way.
Please be careful. Many people aspire for great spiritual knowledge which is wonderful. Few get guided properly. Most of them have so much of pain at the end of their spiritual career. What you like might not be what it suits you.
