I have asked these question infinite times. I am still a novice. It is called prayer with out unceasing in Christian traditions and in Sanskrit it is called as Para bhakthi.
Every name of god in any religion or any language will help us to reach god. Maya plays dirty tricks. It gives us doubt. So the other name of maya is doubt.
We will have to have faith in one mantra and in one deity. Hindus keep on changing. They even assume that if one does not please one god and other god will get upset. Give even one year time but choose one god. We have doubts, infinite doubts in many shapes and sizes. Choose a deity and stick to it for few months at least for a start.
We have a natural affinity for sensual attraction and worldly happiness. One can justify in the name of security fear etc. the plain truth is we love worldly life than remembering the name of god.
First of all god’s name can be remembered by his grace alone. the great saint manickavasakar says" oh lord I remember you due to your grace". It is foolish and futile to even think that by our effort alone gods name can be remembered.
Then contemplate the advantages of prayers with out ceassing.
v No wandering of mind there fore mind is focused. v Unnecessary fantasy and imagination is controlled. v We become aware of subtle level of mind. v We stop getting upset for small things v We regain composure very fast. v We are also start understanding deeper mystery of life.
Like this, one can contemplate these advantages.
