TO FIND GURU FOR ONESELF?

Someone
sent me a letter saying that how to find guru for oneself? Let
me tell you the first meeting with my teacher. I met him after he
had come back from Himalayas. It was 4 o clock in the evening. I
told him that he has to accept me as his student. He looked for
a few moments and said “the real guru is the one who creates
unhappiness. I am like a swimming pool. You can swim with me but
the real love has to flow to all people immaterial of their reactions”.
Then
I asked him does that mean one does need guru? He said yes initially
many people forget the teaching and they try to worship the guru.
The guru’s words is more precious than his life or life style.
Some
very good question to ask
- Do
you have sadhana?
- Do
you practice every day your sadhana?
- Do
you discuss with your guru about sadhana?
- Are
you becoming better as a person?
- Are
you becoming calm centred and focused in life?
- Are
you becoming more peaceful?
- Are
you getting answers indirectly with out asking the questions?
When
one prays for real guidance then the guru tatva operates. One gets
guidance for the problem from someone and it need not be from their
own guru. Many times we speak more than what we intend to. Words
flow and the other person block is cleared that is guru tatva operating.
We
think that one who long beard, wearing a ghervau is a guru. We have
fanciful notion of Ramakrishna parahamsa or yukteswara giri. I have
taken many people to my teacher many of them did not even understand
his level, capability or his ability. I asked my teacher about it
and he said in one sentence yat dristhi that sritsti.
I asked
him one day why one needs a guru “this is a trick. In one
place if you see someone as god u will see god everywhere. One needs
to have faith that is all. To love and surrender normal people find
it difficult. But with a guru it is easier. What you see in one
person you can see in every other person.
Can
we get cheated by a guru? If one is sincere in search then sooner
or later guru comes. Then again in the world of dream many people
relate material gains or losses as criteria. Marpa sold all his
property and converted to gold dust for great naropa .many people
do not have such a level of intensity when a god is part time then
guru is also worth that level.
Many
people pretend to be good in front of the guru. But they crook and
play dirty games in the office. What is the use? One needs to be
consistent in the goodness.
The
best way to sum up is when the disciple is ready guru appears.
