Managers are of four kinds. Of course many of them become managers due to qualification, experience, by birth (which means there are relatives or due to father being in important position). Managers can be divided into center forward, blockers, movers and flankers. This looks like a typical game of football but the analogy is very useful when correlating to work atmosphere. Center forward loves to talk communicate joke and always want to be in the center of action. They love to do every thing but some times grab credit for very important thing. If you take them any problem they will solve in good mood. They are generally impatient and driven for success.
Flankers are not very talented in technical skill. They know their strengths and weakness. Covering their weakness is one of their greatest strength. Using people, supporting people who are very talented will be very easy for them. They appreciate people’s strength and love and will be appreciated in secret. They do not play much game.
Blockers- the insecure type who will like to follow protocol, procedures and say yes to bigger boss for every thing. There are very good in playing games like politicians. If u ask them for ideas they do not have one and if you bring in ideas they will take credit for every thing. Be careful of these types who talk smartly with bright with wits but generally lack ideas. They will block other people’s ideas and will not allow integration to happen.
Movers- these are people who want to do some thing. They don’t have power but have tremendous influence. They know chinks and dinks of hierarchy structure of the organization they are working for. They get thing done and rarely waste people’s time . Progress is fast. Supportive of overall vision or goodness of organization welfare will bwe there in them.
