I have left the path of left hand tantra. I told my teacher that his ways are different from mine. Of course some useful insights for people who want to follow tantra.
The drugs mainly used by tantrics are ganja. Of course they combine it with alcohol mainly rum. Ganja has some advantages. It is easily available, non addictive, stimulate imaginations, cheap in price, concentration becomes sharp, the sensory activity become heightened, reduces the bodily attachment , makes the astral body lose, the pitta increases in the mind, act as non aphrodisiac, apana goes up, breathing slowly down, relaxation happen immediately.
Of course some other drugs can have some other kind of impact. I have never seen any of the drugs like LSD, crack, cocaine, morphine used by tantrics. May be the modern western tantrics use that. Some how these drugs have greater potential for visual imagery but also it is very addictive.
The side effects of the ganja are cough, constipation in some case loss of interest in appetite, over eating( an obese person tend to eat a lot and people who eat less will have increase in that tendency) loss of weight, hallucination, addiction to visual highness, cut of from daily activity of life, more giving with money and material things. The most important rule is to chant the mantra and visualize the deity. One should allow imagination to run wild and tantric try to control it. Secondly one should talk much but no talking negative of any one. my teacher kirtie use to say that one should master the drugs effects and one should be mastered by drugs. He also mentioned that the naga sadhus would sit in circle and pass on the chillum after chillum. The one whose concentration does not shake or pass out due to drugs effects is the winner. I think when deity possess any one, the effects of drugs does not have much physical impact.
The Tantrics believed that self-mastery was to be tested amidst family life, the tumult of town and marketplace, the awesome spectacles of a cremation ground, and the dangers of isolated wilderness areas. Normal people will surely die if they take drugs but these people survive due to deity’s grace. The deity possess them due to this the physical impact of the drugs is less/.
For siddhies of the mantra a vamachara tantric is the best bet. So fast one can see the results. For dakshinachara people the 45 seconds one breath inhalation and exhalation can bring in relaxation. They can also do some strong visualization. A 30 minutes chanting combined with deep breathing will produce effects. Of course it can not produce impact like ganja. Secondly lighting lamp in temple and doing homam will be helpful to strengthen the imagination. To my knowledge one should not mix tantra and yoga.
Tantra believes that pressure work the best. Physically process like sex , sleep pain needs to mastered to have mastery of consciousness. Extreme situation, places and people are good for performing any kind of sadhana. Extreme places like cremation ground ,mortuary produces fast results. Actually in crisis people perform better. Initially pleasure component also produces very good results. The tantric works with body process that is why it requires immense mastery. yoga in positive sense. The Vedanta from mind slowly to other areas. The bhakthi from heart and then the other areas.
